"Thanksgiving Harvest Home,'' sponsored by the Morris County Park Commission, will take place on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
Experience first-hand the lifestyle of the Fosterfields’ estate owners and their bustling employees as they prepare for the holiday. Intoxicating aromas waft from the kitchen as the cook prepares dinner with all the trimmings.
“Rural children played an integral role on their family’s farm, especially during the holiday season. They were given chores at a very young age, and helped with the endless tasks that were completed using human and animal power,” said Mark Sutherland, Historic Sites Manager of the Morris County Park Commission.
Get involved in the many hands-on activities, such as husking corn and sawing wood. Be sure to take a picturesque wagon ride around the farm, and watch a cow milking demonstration.
According to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs there are more than 27,000 World War II veterans currently living in New Jersey, with population of more than 425,000 United States veterans living in the state.
“In honor of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the service of all United States veterans, we honor these individuals with a special tribute at 2 p.m.,” stated Sutherland. “History comes alive when visitors meet and hear the stories of re-enactors from the various WWII military branches.”
There will also be a recognition of the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
In the spirit of the season, we ask people who attend the event to bring unexpired canned or packaged food to be donated to the Interfaith Food Pantry.
Admission for Thanksgiving Harvest Home is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors (65+), $6 for children ages 4 to 16, and $4 for children ages 2 and 3. FREE for children under age 2, and Friends members are half price with a current membership card. Current military personnel and veterans are admitted FREE to this event.
