Construction is scheduled to start on or about Nov. 16 on the 22-foot long, 37-foot wide bridge that was built in 1925 and previously rehabilitated in 1977.
There will be at least a 30-day closure and detour installed on East Main Street, sending traffic to Woodland Road, Cold Hill Road, Cherry Lane and Mendham Road (Route 510.
The school district has been advised of the closure and is prepared to detour school buses.
A $716,862 contract for the job was awarded to Konkus Corp. of Chester, through public bidding. The project, is 100 percent county government funded. Work hours on the bridge project will be 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. But crews could work until 5 p.m. if needed to ensure the project is completed on time.

The Main Street bridge is a single span steel stringer structure with stone masonry substructures. The bridge carries about 2,950 vehicles a day.
The new structure will be a precast, three-sided frame with stone facing. It will have white ornamental railing to mimic the existing railing on the soon-to-be replaced original bridge.
A concrete sidewalk will be added to the north side of the bridge (Woodland Road side) for pedestrian safety. The road width will be the same as currently exists.
The current span’s steel stringers are severely rusted and its deck pans have deteriorated resulting in portions of the asphalt roadway becoming loose and potholes forming across the bridge deck surface.
