Morris Prosecutor's Office to Participate in "Break the Silence'' Conference on Domestic Violence in Morristown on Saturday

The Break the Silence Conference on Prevention of Violence Against Women will be held tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.


It is fittingly being held in October, which is nationally recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Morris County Board of Freeholders on Wednesday also issued a proclamation recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness month in Morris County.

The Break the Silence Conference, which is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, will provide information to the community on how to protect victims of domestic violence and to end the silence surrounding domestic violence in our community.


The keynote speaker is Rev. Bonnie M. Orth, Leader of the Presbyterians Against Domestic Violence Network, who will speak on Violence Against Women Locally and Globally.

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp is pleased to have his office participate in this year’s conference.
   
Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Tia Manochio will present information on the prosecution of domestic violence cases, the criminal sanctions facing defendants convicted of domestic violence, and what protections under the law are available to victims of domestic violence.  

Patty Sly, Director of Jersey Battered Women’s Service, will provide information on Perspectives on Violence Against Women and How We as Individuals Can Make a Difference. She also will discuss the new initiative for the Morris County Family Justice Center.
