County Road Resurfacing Program Targets Projects in East Hanover, Jefferson and Washington Township

Morris County’s enhanced 2015 road resurfacing program will target major roads in three more municipalities, with milling, paving and improvement work set to start late this week and next week in East Hanover, Jefferson, and Washington Townships.

Roads to be tackled include portions of Mt. Pleasant Avenue in East Hanover, Berkshire Valley Road in Jefferson Township, and West Mill Road in Washington Township.

Meanwhile, contractors are now working on two other road resurfacing projects: Blackwell Street in Dover and Rockaway Township, and Canfield Avenue in Randolph and Mine Hill.

“The county freeholder board is following through on our promise to be aggressive to improve roads across the county, to make sure they are in good shape and safe for motorists who expect us to properly maintain these roads,’’ said Morris County Freeholder David Scapicchio, who is the county governing board’s liaison on public works projects.

Scapicchio said the freeholders budgeted more than $6 million in their 2015 capital program for roadway resurfacing in order to continue to provide the high level of road improvement work that was implemented starting in 2014.

Upcoming projects include:

West Mill Road, Washington Township: The 2.2-mile project will run from Beacon Hill Road to Schooley’s Mountain Road, with basin work likely to start this week and milling and paving to start on or about Aug. 10. Motorists should expect some detours and travel delays. The contractor is Topline Construction. The project cost is $537,372.

Berkshire Valley Road, Jefferson: The 1.8-mile project will run from Route 15 to the bridge at Taylor Road, with basin work to start on or about Aug. 10 and milling and paving to start the following week. Motorists should expect some detours and travel delays. The contractor is Topline Construction. The project cost is $550,319.

Mt. Pleasant Avenue, East Hanover: The 0.6-mile project will run from Route 10 through River Road, with basin work set to start on Aug. 17 and milling and paving to follow a few days later. The project will be completed before the start of the new school year. Motorists should expect some detours and travel delays. The contractor is AJM Contractors. The project cost is $254,06

Road closures and detours will be properly signed and coordinated with the local police departments for all of the projects. Bicyclists are urged to seek other routes during this construction period.

Some major county road resurfacing projects that have been completed this year include portions of Watchung Avenue in Chatham Borough, Old Denville Road in Boonton Township and Denville, Lees Hill Road in Harding, Green Pond and Berkshire Valley roads in Jefferson, Parsippany Boulevard in Parsippany, Center Grove Road in Randolph, and another section of West Mill Road in Washington Township.
