Sponsored by the Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris and the Morris County Department of Human Services, the purpose of this forum is to discuss with parents, professionals, and community members the continuing substance abuse epidemic in the county and region.
The forum will deal with efforts to change attitudes and eliminate stigma that can change the way we fight this war on addiction and save lives.

The featured speaker is David Sheff, best-selling author of “Clean: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America's Greatest Tragedy’’ and the memoir “Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction.’’
Sheff is one of the country’s most prominent voices on addiction, based on his own turbulent experiences as a parent, and his mission to find a way to confront addiction and overcome it.
He offers clear, understandable advice for parents and others who want to prevent drug abuse and its devastating effects, as well for individuals and families with loved ones who are struggling with the disease.
“In recent years, New Jersey has seen a surge in overdose deaths from heroin and prescription drugs, and Morris County is not immune,’’ said Beth Jacobson, Addictions Services Administrator for the Morris County Department of Human Service.
“The main focus of this conference will be to present addiction as a disease, not a moral failing. It’s preventable and treatable, just as with a disease such as diabetes,'' she added. "We will bring together parents, youth, professionals and community leaders to address the public health crisis of addiction in our community.''
The forum, which will run from 6-9 p.m., is free to the public but pre-registration is required. Since there is limited seating, interested persons are asked to register soon.
