Applications for the grants are due by Nov. 10.The grant to the Heritage Commission, an advisory body of the Morris County Freeholders, will be provided by the New Jersey State Historical Commission.

Grant awards of from $1,000 to $5,000 will be available to Morris County based history organizations and other non-profit groups that need funding to help move along history based projects.
Applications are due by Nov. 10 and awards will be announced the week of Dec. 21.
Examples of eligible history projects include:
- Exhibit catalogs
- Organizational and information brochure
- Collections catalogs
- Exhibit mounting materials
- Conservation of photographs and documents.
In addition, funds may be used to cover consultant fees for preparing historic structure reports, organizational long range plans, A.D.A. compliance plans, and nomination applications for listing a property on the state and national registers of historic places.
Some Examples of Morris County History Projects: The commission’s re-grant program funded the Pathways of History brochure and provided General Operating Support funding to the Mount Tabor Historical Society.

History project grants are not intended for rehabilitation, preservation, or other work on historic buildings.

General Operating Support grants are intended to help history organizations meet expenses necessary to keep a historic site or museum open to the public. These costs can include insurance, security, heat, electric, other utility bills, and maintaining an internet presence.
General operating support proposals must demonstrate how the applicant will be able to continue and/or improve the level of service offered to visitors if funding is granted.
The Heritage Commission also welcomes applications from nonprofit agencies and organizations whose primary mission is not history based, but have archival collections, historic artifact collections, photographic collections, or are looking to develop public programs that relate to Morris County or New Jersey’s history.
That could include veteran’s organizations, scout groups, schools, libraries and fraternal, social or civic organizations.
