Roads to be improved include sections of Ridgedale Avenue, in a busy residential area crossing from Florham Park into East Hanover; Blue Mill Road in Harding, Whitehall Road in Montville, West Blackwell Street in Dover, and West Randolph Avenue in Mine Hill.
In addition, work is in progress on county resurfacing projects on Dover-Chester and Millbrook roads in Randolph, and Mount Hope Avenue in Dover and Rockaway Township, while preliminary work has started on Fairmount Avenue in the Chathams.
Meanwhile, contractors have recently completed road resurfacing projects on East Hanover Avenue in Hanover and Morris Township and Mt. Pleasant Avenue in East Hanover.
“We are keeping our promise to aggressively deal with needed road improvements across our county, especially to deal with the battering caused by recent harsh winters, and to make sure they are safe for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,’’ said Morris County Freeholder David Scapicchio, who is the county governing board’s liaison on public works projects.
“We are working hard to get as many projects as possible done before the colder weather moves in and shuts down our resurfacing work,’’ he added.
Upcoming paving projects, to start this month, include:
- Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover and Florham Park: The 1.0-mile project will run from James Street in Florham Park to Tiffany Drive in East Hanover. Basin work is scheduled to start late this month followed by milling and two days of paving. Work will be done from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect some delays. Police will be assigned to help direct traffic. The contractor is Schifano Construction Corp. The project cost is $329,018.
- Whitehall Road, Montville: The 0.7-mile project will run from Pine Brook Road to east of Barney Lane. Basin work will be followed by two days each of milling and paving. Work will be done from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect some delays. Police will be assigned to help direct traffic. The contractor is Schifano Construction Corp. The project cost is $317,937.
- Blue Mill Road, Harding: The 0.8-mile project will run from Village Road through James Street. Basin work, milling and paving is tentatively scheduled to start at the end of this week or the week of Sept. 21. Work will be done from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect some delays. Police will be assigned to help direct traffic. The contractor is Schifano Construction Corp. The project cost is $186,003.
- West Randolph Avenue, Mine Hill: The 0.6-mile project will run from Canfield Avenue to the municipal border with Randolph. Basin work will be followed by one day each of milling and paving, with work to be done from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should expect some delays. Police will be assigned to help direct traffic. The contractor is Schifano Construction Corp.
- Millbrook Avenue, Randolph: The 1.2-mile project will run from Sussex Turnpike to Schoolhouse Road. The project includes construction of two curb ramps to provide easier access for disabled persons and others. Work is expected to start later this week or next week. The contractor is Top Line Construction. The project cost is $412,396.
- West Blackwell Street, Dover: The 0.4-mile project will run from the Route 46 overpass to Warren Street. Basin work is scheduled to be done during daytime hours, with and paving work to be done at night, to minimize traffic delays. A curb ramp to provide easier access for disabled persons and others will be constructed as part of the project. Motorists should expect some delays. Police will be assigned to help direct traffic. The contractor is Schifano Construction Corp.
The West Blackwell Street and Randolph Avenue projects are combined as one, with a total budget of $378,601 for the two projects.
The following road projects are in progress:
- Dover-Chester Road, Randolph: The 1.4-mile project will run from Route 10 to Sussex Turnpike. The project includes installation of four curb ramps to be constructed at the intersection with Morris Turnpike. The contractor Top Line Construction. The project cost is $509,475.
- Mount Hope Avenue, Dover and Rockaway Township: The 1.2-mile project will run from Route 46 to Mount Pleasant Avenue. There will be four curb ramps constructed as part of this project. The contractor is Top Line Construction. The project cost is $415,043.
- Fairmount Avenue, Chatham and Chatham Township: The 1.2-mile project will run from Southern Boulevard to Watchung Avenue. Stormwater basin work has begun. Paving and milling could be done next week. The contractor is Top Line Construction. The project cost is $390,876.
Road closures and detours will be properly signed and coordinated with the local police departments for all of the projects. Bicyclists are urged to seek other routes during this construction period.

- Old Denville Road in Boonton Township and Denville
- Mt. Pleasant Ave in East Hanover
- East Hanover Avenue in Hanover and Morris Township
- Lees Hill Road in Harding
- Green Pond and Berkshire Valley roads in Jefferson
- Parsippany Boulevard in Parsippany
- Canfield Avenue in Randolph and Mine Hill
- Center Grove Road in Randolph
- West Mill Road in Washington Township.
The county also has begun work on a major intersection improvement on Changebridge Road in Montville and will soon start a major improvement project on Sussex Turnpike in Randolph.
