Freeholders Host County Meeting in Boonton Township -- Next Stop is Rockaway Borough

The Morris County Freeholders held their bi-monthly meeting in Boonton Township on Wednesday, Aug. 26, as part of a regular series of “road meetings’’ held by the county governing board in all 39 Morris County towns.

At the meeting, held at the borough hall on Powerville Road, Freeholder Director Kathy DeFillippo presented a resolution to Boonton Township Mayor Paul Allieri and Committeeman Thomas Donadio.

“We appreciate the longstanding spirit of cooperation between the freeholders, county government and Boonton Township,’’ said DeFillippo.

“We thank you for allowing us to take over your town hall for an afternoon and evening, to help bring county government closer to the people of your community,’’ she said.

Boonton Township is the longtime home of Freeholder Doug Cabana, who spoke last night of starting in elected government in 1987, when he was elected to the Boonton Township Committee.

Besides Boonton Township, the freeholders have committed to conduct road meetings later this year in Rockaway Borough, Sept. 21; Lincoln Park, Oct. 28; and Florham Park, Nov. 23.

They have held meetings previously this year in Chatham Township, Harding, Morristown and Netcong.

Travelling meetings have been held in all 39 towns in Morris County since the practice began in 2007.

These meetings give the freeholders an opportunity to meet people and officials from throughout the county on their own turf, to hear their local and regional concerns, and get a better understanding of what is important to their towns and communities.

The board of freeholders also meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the County Administration and Records Building in Morristown.
