Nichols’ Gold Award project was enlisting the assistance of family and friends to hand
make 37 fleece blankets for the patients in the pediatric unit of St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville.The 17-year-old from Jefferson was a patient for 12 days in that unit in 2012, and while there, she said she was very homesick. She said she made the blankets as a way of making patients’ stay in the unit more comfortable.
Freeholder Director Tom Mastrangelo presented Nichols with the Certificate on behalf of the entire freeholder board during the board’s Oct. 8 public meeting in Morristown, and congratulated her for “demonstrating strong values, character, leadership skills and social conscience.”
